What’s involved in the Apprenticeship?
Apprentices are employed full time (at least 30 hours per week) and will have a contract of employment that covers at least the duration of the Apprenticeship. The training takes place at a training centre or college on a day or block release from work. The Apprentice will earn a salary and receive 20 days paid holiday.
What types of Apprenticeships are there?
There are two types of Apprenticeships:
- Intermediate Apprenticeship – Level 2 Qualification the equivalent of 5 GCSE’s A-C grade
- Advanced Apprenticeship – Level 3 this is the equivalent to 2 A Levels
- New Standards – Level 3 Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician
Apprentices learn on the job; building up knowledge and skills, while gaining qualifications and earning money all at the same time. This allows you to receive training and assessment in the workplace while working towards nationally recognised qualifications. The NLGGTA Automotive Apprenticeship also involves technical study at college one day each week and in addition Functional Skills – ICT, Maths and English is delivered as part of your qualification.
Successful completion of an Apprenticeship can lead to progression to more challenging qualifications. NLGGTA are keen for their apprentices to build their skills, knowledge and career in the motor industry and they are supported with advice and guidance from the North London Garages GTA training team.
