Working on cars is in the blood of 20-year old David Silvester from Bermondsey. He will follow in a family tradition when he qualifies for his NVQ in Light Vehicles Repairs and Advanced Modern Apprenticeship this summer:
“My dad always used to mess round with cars and my granddad was a mechanic. I used to work in a garage on Saturdays when I was at school so I’ve always been around cars.”
David is an apprentice with Venson’s, the police vehicle maintenance contractors. He has been coming to our Eastcote training centre on a day release basis since September 2002 and can’t wait to become a fully qualified mechanic: “I worked in shops for a year when I left school but it wasn’t for me. I like working with my hands and getting dirty.”
We wish David the very best of luck in his future career – even though he probably won’t be short of family advice!
